The song is a blend of pop music and reggaeton not only brought renewed attention to reggaeton but it also drew interest towards Latin music generally. Billboard's Top 100 included four mostly Spanish songs from 2016 as opposed to two in 2015. However, during the heights of Despacito's fame in 2017, there were 19 predominantly Spanish songs that were included in the Top 100. In 2020, there were 41. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito was released in 2017. Then, numerous famous artists began collaborating with reggaeton artists. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny to create MIA (2018), and Madonna worked with Maluma for the release of Medellin. As early as 2020, some reggaeton musicians protested that the genre was heading towards the popular. Rauw Alajandro is a part of a new generation of musicians who are determined to shift the trajectory of. He often incorporated elements from electronic dance music and other genres.
